Genealogy

The genealogy collection will not be available to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays during August 19, 2020 – December 10, 2020. A local college will be using the room for a classroom.

The West Frankfort Public Library is very proud of its genealogy collection.  Books, census records, marriage records, obituaries, land title records, Franklin County probate court records, family records, and much more comprise the collection, including both circulating and non-circulating books.  The local newspaper, The Daily American, is on microfilm dating back to 1919. With a special emphasis on Southern Illinois, especially Franklin County, the Genealogy area is located in our Community Room.  This space affords genealogists plenty of room to spend the day researching with us.  The Franklin County Genealogy Society has donated all of their collection to our library, greatly expanding our collection.

We invite all genealogy lovers to browse and use our library!  In the event the community room is reserved, the genealogy collection may not be accessible at that time. If you are planning a trip to the area please call ahead to make sure the collection will be available.
